Who Says VEEPs Don't Count

Ken Khachigian of the Wall Street Journal argues, in today's publication, that no one really cares about the VP choice-(read it here). He says that the American people do not choose the main course based on the side dish. He says that the speculation comes as a result of sheer boredom for political pundits, junkies, and other presidential aficionados.

Heather Wilhelm, of Clear Politics, concedes some of Khachigian points but counters that the Veep can make for excitement during the general election campaign. She recalls Dick Cheney devouring John Edwards, during a veep debate in 2004, who looked like the political neophyte that he was and is. I agree with Weilhelm.

We have two candidates who we get sick of hearing from approximately every two weeks, then they make a sudden and unexpected center-ward swing. Suddenly the melee begins and everyone starts the now familiar "flip-Flop" rant. Then we get bored again until the next mind change by either candidate. I believe that some exciting Veep will relieve this boredom.

Let's all admit it.

There really isn't too much difference between Obama and McCain. Both men couch their ideas in language which will make their followers feel good. The Conservatives, while, no doubt, holding their noses and preparing to vote for McCain, will keep chanting the tax reduction themes, the less government theme, the war theme and on and on. The Liberals have their own litany which includes health care for everyone with a measurable pulse, open borders, abortion rights, pulling the troops out of Iraq and on and on.

Right now, neither candidate is succeeding very well. But strip away the spin and what do you find......to guys desperately pandering to middle America, and this is a good thing. It's about time someone asked what middle America really wants. After all we're the largest group out there.... all 68.2 % of us.

The Gipper He Aint!

Barack Obama, when he grows up, most probably, wants to be like Ronald Reagan. That is why he used the "Wall" metaphor in Berlin. It was just enough of a hint of the Gipper gip.jpgto remind everyone of a Great President and a Great Communicator, and another small little hint that he is going to be as great, if elected. Fat Chance!

Unfortunately, in typical liberal progressive fashion, he used the metaphor to talk about America's problems. As though Europeans need to be reminded that America, which we know to be the finest country on the planet, bar.jpg is not perfect, yet. W.S. Gilbert, in one of his satirical songs in "The Mikado," says, "the idiot who praises, with enthusiastic tone, all centuries but this and every country but his own..." is totally unnecessary and can be completely done without. It forces one to recall the liberal, "blame America first" mentality. How could the quintessentially liberal, far-left, totally non-pragmatic, pie-in-the-sky presidential candidate possibly say anything good about America, and especially so, in socialist Europe. mcc.jpgCould it be that Europe loves him because of his ideology? They see through the centrist charade, and recognize him for one of their own. And McCain, alas, while a good man, is way too dull to compete.....God Help America!

A Soldier's Take On Obama

The following is an e-mail from CPT. Jeffrey S. Porter, who is fighting for us in Afghanistan, right now. He is the father of six, and they are at home worrying and praying for him, as we all should be. This is his take on Senator Obama's visit to "the troops".  Kind of a different take than what you will see on the news. Make of it what you will:

Hello everyone,

As you know I am not a very political person. I just wanted to pass along that Senator Obama came to Bagram Afghanistan for about an hour on his visit to "The War Zone". I wanted to share with you what happened. He got off the plane and got into a bullet proof vehicle, got to the area to meet with the Major General (2 Star) who is the commander here at Bagram. As the Soldiers where lined up to shake his hand he blew them off and didn't say a word as he went into the conference room to meet the General. As he finished, the vehicles took him to the ClamShell (pretty much a big top tent that military personnel can play basketball or work out in with weights) so he could take his publicity pictures playing basketball. He again shunned the opportunity to talk to Soldiers to thank them for their service. So really he was just here to make a showing for the American's back home that he is their candidate for President. I think that if you are going to make an effort to come all the way over here you would thank those that are providing the freedom that they are providing for you. I swear we got more thanks from the NBA Basketball Players or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders than from one of the Senators, who wants to be the President of the United States . I just don't understand how anyone would want him to be our Commander-and-Chief. It was almost that he was scared to be around those that provide the freedom for him and our great country.
If this is blunt and to the point I am sorry but I wanted you all to know what kind of caliber of person he really is. What you see in the news is all fake.

In service,
CPT Jeffrey S. Porter
Battle Captain

God Bless and protect you and your fellow warriors, Cpt. Porter. Thank you for your service. We know very well that freedom isn't free and we are fortunate that we, as a nation, have heroes like you paying the price.

Oh No....Not The Truth!

In politics today, it just isn't beneficial to tell the truth. The truth hurts. The truth is politically incorrect and unacceptable. If one wants to get elected one must not tell the truth. One cannot remind black men that they have to feed, clothe, provide shelter and mentor their progeny. One cannot tell teenagers that abortion is not a choice, it is murder. You cannot openly say that the top three to five percent of the wealthiest Americans do not deserve to be taxed at higher rates than everyone else just because they are wealthy. You cannot say that people who have entered America illegally do not deserve anything, whether it is health care, or education or a living wage. You cannot say that Islam preaches hatred towards non-believers and advocates their destruction. You cannot remind France that they would be speaking German were it not for thousands of American GIs who lie buried on French soil who gave their all to free that ungrateful country. You cannot say that Americans who complain constantly about the state of the Union, are whiners, while owning TVs, microwave ovens, two cars, nice homes, manicured lawns, air-conditioning, kids in free schools, the freedom to worship as they choose, the freedom to say whatever they want about the government and they freedom to pursue happiness whatever form it takes.

Saying any of that is not allowed. It's telling the truth. The truth will set you free.....from elected office!

What Racism?

Anytime an old guy, a woman and a black guy run for the highest political office in the land, there is going to be a lot of talk about racism, sexism and ageism. Sexism and Ageism rank after Racism. America was not ready to elect a black man to its highest office. One idiot rapper said that someone would kill him if he got elected. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, I think, both hope that a black doesn't get elected, because if he does, that will shatter their premise forever. Then how will they earn a living. Neither has had a 9-5 job ion years. This writer was at a very popular riparian resort this weekend and there were hordes of people enjoying themselves. There were black people, Asian people, Hispanic people, people from the Indian sub-continent and white people, all small groups having fun. Enjoying the weekend, together. These were not people forced to work together, or worship together, commune together, or commute together, or do anything per force of being thrown together by forces other than their own choice to be together. Where, was the racism that is being bandied about all the time? If these ethnic groups truly hated each other would they play together like this? Is this the same country where white people ate and drank in places where people of other ethnicities were not allowed? Where, indeed, is the racism?

God Be Good To You, Tony Snow!

How many political Pundits are intelligent, entertaining to watch and good-looking to boot. Having never seen the private side of Tony Snow, we only discovered that he was a devoted musician, after his passing. Add music making to the huge lists of gifts this amazing man was given. The only White House Press Secretary who actually gave back much of what he got in the White House Press Corp. each of whom think they are smarter than they really are. Where questions are asked, not to gain information but to try and establish the intelligence level of the questioner, and how keen his or her insight into shady presidential politics is.

It was short lived. Tony served a very short time and then it became boring again and the idiots in the corp. went back to asking their stupid, mundane, unimportant, redundant questions again without challenge. Too bad. The good die young. We are experiencing it once again as we mourn the loss of a terrific young guy.

Rest in Peace Mr. Snow…..and if there is a Press Corp in heaven….give ‘em hell!
