Mr.
Obama has said that Republicans will say they he is dangerous because
he is different and because he doesn't resemble any of the Presidents
on the various dollar bills. Well, the last time I checked, he's right.
The Presidents on the dollar bills all wore wigs. Obama doesn't, that's
a difference. Those poor old men had fake teeth. Elephant or Rhino
ivory. Obama, grew up in modern America and because of the greatest
health care system on the planet, he has good teeth, probably paid for
by "typical" white grandparents. So that's another difference.
Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin and Hamilton were all born
Englishmen. Another difference. Many differences. So, for the first
time ever, I find myself agreeing with Barack Obama. But now, let's
look at ideological differences between Obama and Washington,
Jefferson, Lincoln, Hamilton, Franklin, Jackson and Grant.Washington
and Grant were both generals involved in wars which were not popular
and were criticized. Yet both wars preserved this country as we know it
now. The war of independence separated the colonies from England and
created the American Republic that was an experiment which had never
been tried previously. The civil war kept the union from dissolving
into so many autonomous, separate states, with no federal government to
hold them together. Mr. Obama, not only has never served in the armed
services, he's not too crazy about them either. He openly snubbed the
soldiers in hospital in Germany, to go to the gym.
Thomas Jefferson did not like the idea of the Federal Government
taking care of all our business. I suppose this least resembles Mr.
Obama. Given the choice, Mr. Obama would have big brother taking care
of everything from the way we do our laundry to the way we educate our
children. Alexander Hamilton, another guy on a bill, resembles Mr.
Obama, because he too wanted the Feds to manage everything. A nice
strong Federal government, who would provide cradle to the grave care
for all Americans.
Now Lincoln is the one who least resembles Mr. Obama. It was Mr.
Lincoln's belief that you cannot help the poor by bringing down the
rich. He also said: "That some should be rich, shows that others may
become rich, and, hence, is just encouragement to industry and
enterprise." One wonders, then, what Mr. Lincoln would say to taxing
one industry extra heavily than all others because of windfall profits.
What would Mr. Lincoln about taxing, extra heavily, the top 2% of all
Americans, just because they have accumulated more wealth.
So make no mistake. Mr. Obama is right, he doesn't in anyway
resemble most of the Presidents on the various dollar bills. And, for
myself, I am unreservedly grateful.
