What's a Billion?

The statistics contained, herein, are not my work. I am told it came from some advertising agency. I want to be sure to give whoever gathered this data gets all the credit for having done so.

Politicians use the word "Billion" as frequently as they say, "I do not recall."

Billions are bandied about with reckless abandon and a frivolity that rivals that of kids in a candy store. I wonder how many Representatives and how many Senators could actually tell you how many zeroes there are in one Billion. Well, I googled it. There are 9 zeroes in one billion. When you look at the number written out it doesn't appear to be that much of anything. It is a big number, for certain, but it does not impress.

However, if you read what this brilliant AD agency did, you realize the enormity of a billion. You suddenly gain perspective. You suddenly realize that we have entrusted some 650 idiots with managing and disbursing many thousands of Billion of dollars, that it took months and months for you and I to earn. I hope that God is not fed up blessing the United States of America. Boy, do we ever need Him now!

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

YET....YET...A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

And if you want to be a little more annoyed....here is how those 600 odd idiots in Congress and the charmer in the White House are planning to raise all that money.

None of these taxes existed 100 years ago.
One Hundred years ago we had absolutely no national debt. We had the largest middle class in the world. Mothers stayed at home to raise the kids. We had far fewer prisons.  And, most of all; the average American knew that while he was endowed with an enormous list of rights, he didn't have a right to health care, or a house, or a car, or a job, or retirement, or unemployment, or welfare.

I wonder what the heck happened.

It occurs to me that 100 years ago everyone in Congress could walk upright. Maybe that's the answer. Maybe not.

If you know the answer...do leave a comment.
