TRANSPARENCY? HUH?

Whatever happened to transparency?

Recall the campaign promise about how nothing would be signed into law unless the American People had had a chance to peruse it on the internet for a full five days. When it came time for the budget to be signed, our beacon of hope and “change we could believe in” conveniently forgot about that promise. The budget was signed within a thirty-six hour period. Was it even ever on the White House website?

We have already seen other promises broken.

The one about lobbyists.

There would be no former lobbyists working in the Obama White House. Then suddenly the rule had to be suspended because there were two people without whom the country would collapse.

Now picture George Bush breaking a widely touted promise like the “no-lobbyist” one. The New York Times, Media Matters, the Daily Kos, and the Huffington Post would have had paroxysms. Chris Matthews, Tom Brokaw and the idiot comedians on late night television would have fainted in sheer disbelief that the President of the United States could lie with such impunity. President Bush would have been called out and publicly disgraced.

What about the promise regarding no porcine earmarks. President Obama was going to abolish earmarks. Now, we are being told, by the same President, that earmarks are a valuable device that Senators and Representatives can use to bring much needed Federal Funds to their districts and to their States. It is clear that Obama’s promises are like proverbial piecrusts…they crumble easily. President Obama’s legacy will a memorable one, but no other part of it will stand out in our memories as much as his ability to bend with the political wind; his ability to shift positions for political expediency.

He never tells it like it is….he tells it the way you want to hear it.

This is change we can believe in?

Can we even remember how to spell change?
